We want to share with you how Mary Braids came to be. Ever since we were in our 20s, we’ve both cherished creativity in different forms. For Isabelle, it was crafting, styling, and experimenting with art. Growing up in Côte d’Ivoire, she spent five years learning and perfecting hair braiding—a skill she truly enjoyed and felt proud of.

We want to share with you how Mary Braids came to be. Ever since we were young, we’ve both loved creativity in different forms. For Isabelle, it was crafting, styling, and experimenting with art. Growing up in Côte d’Ivoire, she spent five years learning and perfecting hair braiding—a skill she truly enjoyed and felt proud of.
Isabelle and Joel—a partnership built on dreams and creativity.
In 2011, we met each other. Joel is a talented web designer, and together, we started dreaming about building something meaningful. By 2014, we had moved to the United States, looking for opportunities to turn those dreams into reality.
Combining Isabelle’s passion for hairstyling and Joel’s skills in web design, we started Mary Braids. Our goal was to create a space that celebrates beauty and originality while welcoming people from all backgrounds. We didn’t want to just open a hair salon; we wanted to create a community.
It wasn’t easy in the beginning. We faced language barriers, moments of self-doubt, and the stress of starting fresh in a new country. Despite these challenges, our determination kept us going. Our daughters, who were our very first customers, always inspired us to push forward.
